Do you know the average number of microbes that a typical supermarket’s shopping cart contains? Unfortunately, many supermarkets aren’t really cleaning their trolleys with antibacterial wipes as much as needed, and are unaware of how unsanitary shopping trolleys can and do become.

In general, supermarkets are usually known for having comfortable trolleys that make shopping a breeze, however, there is growing public concern over the sanitation of shopping trolleys and baskets because it has been proven that supermarket shopping trolley can test positive for deadly germs.

Germs such as salmonella and even E. Coli can be found on the handles of shopping trolleys, and these can make customers who use them very sick, and that is bad for business. Thankfully, there are ways supermarkets can prevent germs nad bacteria from accumulating on their trolleys and shopping baskets, by establishing sanitation stations.

Importance of Sanitation Stations for Supermarkets

It is true that supermarket employees spend much time and energy cleaning shopping trolleys and baskets, to make sure that these are clean for customers to use. However, these efforts alone cannot prevent the spread of bacteria and virulent germs on shopping trolleys in busy supermarkets, without available sanitation stations for customers to use.

Here are a few reasons why supermarket trolleys are not as clean as you might think.

1. Supermarket trolleys are touched by people of all ages, all day long, and these aren’t cleaned usually everyday, allowing microbes to build up.

2. Baby trolleys and capsules are expose to similar conditions, and worse because some tests have even revealed feacal matter contamination.

3. There are many local supermarkets that do not keep antibacterial wipes for trolleys and for personal use, which means that equipment and customers are at risk of exposure to all types of bacterial growth and many other types of microorganisms.
